Crystal SSCS 6 vs Rainbow SLC265

Thanks for the input. I'm not really sure on the prices as I can't find them online yet. Price wise, I would go up to 500, but if I can't get something very nice for far less, I'm not going to spend it. I have CDT CL-61A's now, and I like them, but they do lack some quality and sound.

well for me the Rainbows were my first choice and ive had them installed since summer. Right now my right side is gone and my left side is going too .. and i dont know why they are going/high pitched static sound. Maybe they are blown? maybe the crossover got wet and short circuited .. i have no clue but it makes me sad to spend 250$ or so and have them only for 8months or so ... and i had them installed by a shop.

were the gains set properly? with a DMM?

they werent set with a DMM .. i had them about 1/4 of the way

X2 on that...Also..Arnt the SLC's still about a $220 set of speakers? $150 vs $220? Seems like an easy choice, even if the latter has some tonal advantages.

You guys are making me want to ditch my cdt ef-61s for the Crystals. I figure I can sell the cdt's for around 125 and get the crystals for a few bucks more.

Same here, i hate making the wrong decision. I know the minute i buy the crystals, i'll see a thread of how cdt's or rainbows are so much better than crystal and how crystal is garbage.
And if i buy the rainbows, i'll see a thread of how they are outdated crap and someone will say how they are so glad they bought crystal instead of rainbow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Seems like they both have their pro's & cons but im gonna get the crystals probably since its cheaper and they seem like almost the same value and put that extra money towards a ho alternator, upgraded wiring, more sound deadening, batteries, etc. It never ends with car audio. Just do that probably and call it a day.

My other main choice right now is the CDT HD-62's or the Crystals.

Can you guys give me some feedback about the Crystal SSCS 6's vs some CDT HD-62's?? Either setup will be powered with a Power acoustik 250x2 @ 4 ohm amp bridged. Probably overrated but who knows.

Thats the choices im looking at most likely.

The biggest mistake you'll mkae is buying a set because its recommended on the forum. What sounds good to me or you may sound like complete crap to someone else. Go around to a few shops and listen to different sets and get a taste of what you like/dislike. The Crystals and the Rainbows both sound good to me but that doesn;t mean they'll sound good to you. Also, you can have a 10k component set but without taking the time to get the installation right, they'll sound like $100.00 set. Installation is just as important if not more so than the drivers themselves.

yeah only thing i dont like about the crystals is the mounting depth.

Well okay so today i took off my door panel on the passenger side .. and looked at the wires and saw that it started to rust. Would this cause the mids and tweeter to have a staticy (sp?) sound? Or could it be a bad ground? or a bad RCA cable?

Tiny mags...My cdt 61a's dwarf those things. Of course it's not like you can tell much from magnet size. All i know is I bought a set of Boston SL60's a while back thinking they would be as good, or slightly better than my CDT's, and those things sucked. Magnet looked almost just like that. Set them at anything below 100hz, with 110w of power and they would sound like popcorn popping. Ended up keeping my CDT's up front, and using the Boston's for rear fill.
