Crystal SSCS 6 vs Rainbow SLC265

Is there any unbiased people that may be interested in doing a review of the two? Someone who knows what they are looking and listening for? I am very interested in a direct comparison of the two.

if i have the time, i would do it.

you might also try "azgrower" on diymobileaudio. he has a set of crystals and would give a good comparision. i know he's been pretty busy, i'm not sure if he's even installed his crystal's yet. and he's had them for many months.

he has owned quite a few different set ups, including up to dynaudio. he likes to try different gear.

you have a legit shop? a show room floor and install bay? if you do, then you can call crystal and see about getting a set to try for yourself.

You get what you pay for. They Crystal are pretty impressive for the price, but tonality doesnt compare to the Rainbows. The Kick version dominate the crystals, with the regular SLCs being almost dead on. I may have to order another pair of Crystal and do a comparison for you all. Or send a pair of SLCs to someone and let them do it for biasness.
Ya, I already have compared the two. But I would like a nonbiased ear for everyone else if you know what I mean.
So you think the SLC's "sound" better than the Crystals overall? How about clarity?

Also, what did you power them with?

BTW, I know you're a Rainbow distributor, but I'm still curious about your review.

Thx.

Dom

I've owned the Crystals and have heard the Rainbows in about 4 or 5 installs. (About 2 were very nicely done) and I think it comes down to preference. I do disagree with the post that claims that they are harsh. They are from from that and sound very clean without the harshness. As everyone else said, midbass is definately lets you know its their which is does in the Rainbow also so I don't see much of a upperhand in either set their. The Rainbows to my hears have a better tonal sound than the Crystals. Honestly, they both perform well but its highly dependent on install and preference. I loved my Crystals with the music I listen to and would definately buy another set. If I was to go with Rainbows, I would go with the Germs, that's when the difference between a good set for the price vs a good set period is seen. The SLC's and SSCS6 are too close in performance wise and comes down to preference IMHO.

I had them installed for quite some time, now running Pro 6.5's.

our's, $160 shipped.

those boys in socal where crystal is, don't have the extra shipping costs to get to them, that we do up here.

$145 shipped from them, is still pretty much them giving them to you.

as for the rainbows, it's been a few years since i've heard them. i don't remember the lines. all i remember is one retailed around $550 and the other around $800.

i'd like to hear them again and see if i think any different or if they made any changes. cause back then when they first got the hype, i sure didn't think they were worth even half of their price tag.

and it wasn't a case of biasness. i was excited to be able to audition them and had been looking forward to it.
