Crutchfield's speaker mounting specs and dimensions

Is this thing accurate? According to their data in the catalog my 2001 Civic has 2" for mounting depth. Something is not right though... I have HD-52's in my doors without problems (behind the factory grills, no spacers, etc...) and the CDT site says mounting depth is 2.53" for those //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif My audio guy thinks with a little spacing we may be able to get a 3" depth driver in there. What gives on these specs?

Crutchfield's specs, as far as speaker mounting and such, should be used for no more than a vague guide.

When I 1st bought my car they listed that a set of Infinity Reference 4" 2-ways (that I bought for $25/shipped) wouldn't fit in my doors at all.

They fit exactly with no modifications needed at all. I dunno why they so frequently get that stuff wrong...

I don't have the book in front of me but I remember it said 6x9's no more than 3". I looked tonight scoping out a set of 6x9's with 3.5" so I went out to the car and measured. Where they get that number from is beyond me! None of the trunk bars go within 1" of the magnet. Therefore I think it easy to mount one with 6" of depth. Don't go buy these guys numbers!

I have to say something too... they told me that my speakers wouldnt fit... SURPRISE! They did. Crutchfield is retarded. MY fonr tspeakers don't fit worth shit. I will have to make my own brackets/spacers for them so they don't hit my windows.

As a follow-up I have M-6's in my doors which are 3.75" depth. That's 1.75" over what they say will fit!

I don't know where cruthfield gets their information from because they're wrong in two instances now... I'm starting to think they're really BSing their information.
