Is the Intel Pentium Dual Core better than the Core 2 Duo?

before I even read what anyone else says( I went back to the page I last posted so I haven't seen what the responses to this are). You need to know that whenever intel first introduced it's dual core processor to compete with athlons duo processor that the intel was 70%, yes you read that correctly, 70% better performance wise then the leading athlon. This was of course whenever intel first introduced it but I've been an intel fan since then because obviously, they are doing something correctly.

Jmac is probably the better person to ask about pieces more than I am solely because he deals with this stuff everyday(he has a job as a tech) where as mine is just sort of a hobby.

I have an Athlon as well but I'm still only using single core. I've been wanting to update my system for well over a year but all I do is homework, forums, and listen to music. yeah exactly.....What I don't understand is my friend is about to shell out a little over 1k dollars for his new computer and he isn't a hardcore gamer. It makes no sense to me why people do that. If all you do is what Preston and I have said and maybe throw in game play in there every now and then, there is no reason to waste money. I'm content with what I have.
