I feel kinda hypocritical whenever I pass on advice, since I'm not exactly that great with women...but as my friend would tell me "It's always good to appear busy. It makes you look like an important and popular person".

Other than that, if this is your first little bit of communication with her, I wouldn't respond back as soon as I got the message. I'd wait like a day or so. An hour or two at the minimum.

I agree with the last part you said. I'll probably respond tomorrow in class and won't try and contact her before then. If I had to guess as to why you don't immediately respond back, it makes you look over interested and desperate. That's just if I had to guess as to what the reasoning behind it is.
