A good mix is definitely necessary. I agree college is good for networking. Even though me and you are probly looking for different type of networking.Some of those schools have the impression that they are degree mills and the students don't get real information.
I am curious the number of job offers by classmate are different online versus class room. In class, people are able to demonstrate leadership, critical thinking skills -- on more of an impromptu basis than online. I have had this guy all semester trying to get me to quit and work as an actuary for an insurance company. I don't think that kind of networking is available online. Even when there where online "groups", we communicated via email. Lug's classes seem a bit more interactive, but I don't know how much job-related networking gets accomplished.
My online classes were very interactive it was a major part of your grade.
