Cross Over Question and Component Speakers

Hi,

Have a quick question concerning component speakers and the cross over. I am looking to purchase some component speakers.

When install the speakers (i.e. 6 ½ and tweeter) should I use the cross over that came with it or my electronic cross over? I already have the electronic cross over installed and ready to go. Just wondering what would provide for better performance.

Cheers!

The crossover that comes with components is passive (after the amp), yours is electronic (before the amp). To use yours, you would be "going active" and need an extra pair of amplifier channels. Unless you have that extra pair and know what you are doing, I'd just use the ones that come with the comps that are already optimized for them.

I actually do have a 4 channel amp ready to use. I am assuming 4 channels because I would require 2 channels for the tweeters and 2 channels for the 6 1/2.

This sound correct?

yes, well then its up to you, for a guy who knows what they are doing and with decent components, going active can result in better performance. Basically, if the rating on two of the channels is enough to drive the speakers loud enough for you, go ahead and try active.. but remember going active wastes alot of potential power, so if they dont get loud enough for you, you migh be better of bridging your 4-cahnnel amp down to 2 channels (and using the passive x-overs that came with comps) for extra power.
