An option for better bass would be to mount 1 or 2 8" subs in the rear deck, infinite baffle instead of the 6.5's in the doors. You would have to seal the cabin from the trunk very well though. When you say you don't want subs I assume you mean you don't want a loud, spl type, sub enclosure? The 6.5" JL's are considered subs.
