Crazy over high wattage amps!

It seems everyone is either putting 3000+ watts in their vehicles or like the thought of putting 3000+ watts of power in their vehicles.

It also seems that there are fewer car audio competitions out there and the local dealers are getting less customers. (At least here in Hampton/Newport News).

So if there are less comps but people doing bigger power, whats it for?

Getting to the point....I've been looking for a decent amp to put out between 1K-1.2K @ 2ohms. My search always brings up 3000D or 4000D type amps.

What are some good, resonable priced, 2k or less amps?

Oh yeah...Its alot of overrated 1K - 1.5Ks out there now. More than in the past anyway.

I prefer running a potential 4000+ watt amp because I can set it for about 1500 watts and it will be extremely efficient! and then if need be I can turn it up and get more out of it.

how much are you lookin to spend?

i think there is a power acoustik a3000 in the for sale forum for a decent price. it does somewhere around 1k-1.5k at 2 ohms. plus you can throw a lil more than 14 volts at it if im not mistaken

Not looking to spend more than $300 on a sub amp. Subs only need 1K combined at a 2-ohm load. Right now its have a nice sounding system in my truck or an extremely loud set up in my car.

With little to no comps in this area, I'm looking to beef up the sounds in the truck.

Kicker ZX 1000.1 is another solid option. It isn't too pricey if you go the used or e-bay route.

Anyone have bench test results on the Sundownz SAE 1000D, SAZ? 1500D or the AudioQue amps?

Adding extra cash for quality isn't a problem. I just don't need gobs of watts for 500rms subs.

Yeah thats a good amp (MTX 1501) but so many people have modded those things that I don't even want to consider buying used. There are a ton of "old school" amps that I wish were still available.

I have tried that amp twice hoping it would be what I was looking for but was disappointed both times. I wasn't getting the output I thought I should. It could have been user error I guess.

whats wrong with it being modded? if you running at 2 ohms its the same as it not being modded.
