Crap VS. Quality

Go for it. Stand out from the crowd. I don't understand why 95% of the people on this forum want to run the same old shiz. Sundown, Sundown, AP, Discus, Sundown, etc. I find no joy in running something that everyone and their mother owns. I'm guessing you feel the same.
Don't tell people what you are running. Demo it first. Let them guess. Then tell them it's Sony and watch their eyes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/awesome.gif.4430a219d9aaaa6cadc75e9290979dfb.gif Nobody is surprised anymore when people pull 150db with Sundown or have a nice sounding Focal setup.

I'll be running o/s Earthquake subs and amps, and I still haven't decided on speakers yet. I have yet to see anyone here running o/s EQ in their cars...

thats what i'm going for. something that shocks a little. nobody that hasn't been in the game for at least 15 years knows about sony when they were good. they think xplod is all they ever made. hopefully i can work something out with him to get the deck and changer and its on from there. ;]

you mean something like this brand new old school Mobile ES EQ/Crossover //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I'm not sure if that works with that deck or not. its a xr-c900 i believe.

i was talking about the xec-1000 i think. 3 in , 5 out , 3 way active.

it truly depends on the manufacturer , most of the mainstream (well known) brands truly blow these days. And the ones that do make quality products are overpriced. case in point.......ARC Audio. they make great amps , but vibe audio sells amps identical to the arc mini for hundreds less , all because they are not popular enough to jack up the prices and get away with it like ARC can and does.

lemme guess. ppi 2150am? I cheated ' date=' the pic is named ppi2150am. LOL[/quote']
I gotta start changing the names on my pics before posting.

But, yeah it is a PPI 2150am. 2 x 150 watts on a 4 ohm load @ 12 volts. Stable at 2 ohm stereo and 4 ohm mono. A great all-purpose amp. Enough power to run components or a single sub. Very clean and as you can see, built like a tank.

Up until last year, I had 3 of these. Two were sent off for repair and check-up, never to be seen again.

I learn better hands on than with books.
Even better then, Elliot sound products (the second link) offers amplifier boards and the parts list... you buy the parts and come up with a suitable transformer and heatsink and build your own amplifier.... it dosen't get more hands on then that....

Meh, you'll probably find another. Lol...
Nope, I did not. I'm not quite able to identify which transistors relate to which function of the amp yet. How do you figure that out, and what is good about the fact that there are more in the power supply than the output stage?
Some amps are easier than others to pick out some basic characteristics at a glance. This one's about as easy as they get.

Having a number of mosfets in the pwr supply section might be an indicator the PS is overbuilt.

I'm a newbie here.

I looked at all the pictures and from my untrained eyes, most look like they full of "stuff". But. The pictures aren't labeled crap or quality. Can I 'assume' the ones with a lot of "stuff" in them are the quality ones?

Another question. Is every amp from a supplier TODAY (not old school) crap or quality?

For instance. Is every Boss Audio crap or do they have some decent ones?

Is every Cadence amp quality or are there crap ones? etc. etc.

I'm going to start my own thread on low dollar 5 ch amps, but want to know from the guys here. This thread seems to have pulled in some knowledgeable people :)

Can I pick a brand name and trust whatever they make is crap or pick another brand name and trust whatever they make is quality?

If so can you list crap companies and quality companies please?

Thanks

have to ask the age old question..........Is todays products better than 8-10 years ago........ ?????

Amps are larger (more watts) but are they built better ?

You can kind of understand the difficulty of answering that question by thinking whether a CRT HDTV is better or worse than a same-sized LCD HDTV.

Film studios still use CRTs as reference monitors when they edit their movies, some precision hospital scanners use b&w CRTs as monitors and same with oscilloscopes. The Sony GDM-FW900 24-inch CRT wide-screen monitors are the holy-grail for uber PC nerds and it pwns newer flat panel monitors by a long shot.

The only downfall for CRTs are its size and weight, otherwise an 80 inch CRT TV would make any other display technology **** their pants.

Well played, Sir.

I had no idea about that stuff...what's the market price for that Sony 24"?
