Cover door holes?

I need to cover access holes in my door for deadening, front doors have very large openings 8 inches tall curved about 18 inches long. i have searched and they say plexiglass(which I couldnt cut), hardboard (which I would prefer not to spend more to waterproof...kinda a weak excuse), perforated aluminum (which I cant find close to me.

What is something else I could use, I thought about roof flashing but would that be my next best option? I would prefer to not put more holes in the door so Im thinking of still using the silicon sealer suggested by rick at Raamat.

Let me know

"Hardboard", you mean MDF right? MDF will work well, or plexi. The first doors I did we just put 4-5 layers of peel and seal over the large holes (but they weren't as large as what you describe). That was half assed, but it worked okay. MDF with liquid nails is much better.

Plexi can be cut with a standard jigsaw.

Use 5/8" or 3/4" MDF or Plexi.

No hardboard is like that weak fiber board type material that has holes all in it. like 16 bucks for a 4x8 sheet

What good is that? If it's got holes in it or it's not dense/ridgid enough then it won't do what it needs.

I suggest you use MDF, leftover peices from a sub box would be perfect. If you scrounge around a construction site where houses are being built you should be able to find some scrap pieces of MDF after they install the kitchen.

22 Gauge Aluminum, its at your hardware store somewhere...lol Its worked great for me so far.
