corroding batteries (2 so far)

Would a particular type of metal for an amp power connection terminal on a battery (via an inline fuse, of course) cause corrosion and/or leaking positive terminal battery problems?

5 years ago I got a 2002 chevy trailblazer and I put in a Pioneer HU and a rockford fosgate 300W@2ohm mono subamp. That ran fine for 4 years then all of a sudden one day it doesnt crank. Come to find out the battery cable is all corroded out because, as the mechanic put it, the battery died and leaked all out on the cable assembly. So I paid like 300 for a new battery and cable assembly. Problem solved.

So 6 months later, same thing happens. Today I cant crank the engine. I open the hood and there is all sorts of corrosion at the positive battery terminal.

Is my amp's power connection causing this??? If so, why was it fine for 4 years, and now happened the second time after only 6 months?

corrosion on the posts and cables is caused by the gases emitted from the battery condensing on metal surfaces.

get felt washers to go under the connections, and use a dialectic grease over open cable ends and connections

Problem solved, and make sure all the connections are tight and dont have the ability to wiggle around.
