Correct Settings on amplifier? Planet Audio

gains.JPG

input all the way up,

filter at 25 but if you a o-scope it would be a shit load easier to set

bring your lowpassfilter allt he way down

phase at 0

bass boost allt he way down you'll never need it.

get a DMM and a 50Hz tone

pop in the 50Hz tone and put on repeat. No equalizers or loud mode or whatever you have on your reciever.

to get the voltage gain you need SQRT(RMSxResistance[

with the sub out of the amp connect the DMM thats set to AC and slowly turn the lowpassfilter knob till you have recieved the voltage form the equation.

My ... bass boost all the way up or all the way down doesnt seem to change anything. What should it do? I have a little remote volume knob thing connected to like a phone cable that turns the sub up and down, is that a remote bass boost thing and it disables the one on the amp? (please say so I dont want to send the amp back and wait 3 more weeks)

You want me to turn my low pass filter all the way down? So my subsonic is 25 ish and my low pass is 50 ... I can only play notes between 25 and 50? that doesnt sound good... but im a noob .. so I will try..

Going to go do the 47.4 volt thing. Be back in a few hours.

(I hope this isnt a re post I thought I posted before but it doesnt seem to be showing up. Sorry if it is)

(oh I see what I did I edited my above post instead of making a new one. Sorry)

Ok just went outside and the test.

I'm very very confused.

This is what I did I hope I did it correctly.

Disconnected the subwoofer from the amp. (with car off and stuff)

then turned car on and put in my 50 hz CD that just played 50 hz all day. (99 tracks of 50 hz hehe)

Then I went to the trunk (where amp is) and turn my sistivity all the way to 8.

Went to my deck and put the volume at 55ish out of 64 volume.

Went back and put my multi meter thingy on AC and connected it to negative and positive terminal connectors for sub. It was like .5 and then I started turning "down" the input sensitivity. It sent like 5 then 20 then 40 very very fast. I went higher just to see what I did have it at and it was doing like 140s. I turned it back down quickly.

Anyways the 47.4 is pretty much right where I had it. Why is the quare root of your rms a good number to stay at?

Was I supposed to get this number with the bass boost all the way off? Becuase my remote bass boost was all the way up . . . .

oh and again, you sure I should have my low pass filter all the way down?

Thanks for the help.

So my amp is actully doing more power at 4 ohm?

You said square root of( rms wattage x ohmage) right?

so 2250 at 1 ohm = 47.4

800 at 4 ohm = 56.6

even at 2 ohm

1500 at 2 ohm = 54.8

So whats that all about? Better to run at 4 ohm? Did everyone die on this post? No one is saying anything.

Put the **** "bass-boost" all the way down. That's the easiest way to kill a sub quick.

Have your subsonic filter ALL THE WAY DOWN. Turn the HP to about 60-70hz. Then keep you gains @ 47.4 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ok thanks I'm going to go out and do that now. Is highpass and low pass on my amp the same? (see picture above) I was told to turn the low pass all the way down. Is that right?

NO. Highpass filter and lowpass filters are different. For component speakers you would use the HPF, and for your sub you use the LPF. Turn the LPF to around 60Hz. This will make it so that your subs are only sent the low notes, if it is all the way down then you will be sending it notes that are too low and could kill the sub.

Aighty, I went out there and unplugged my remote bass boost, and turned the bass boost on the sub allllll the way down. With my imput senstivity in the same spot I had to go to 59 out of 61 volume to get it to 47 volts. Instead of 30s.

I had the low pass filter all the way down though. Do I need to go back out there and do it again becuase of that? It looks like the low pass only goes as low as 50 and I was playing a 50 hz note, so it shouldnt have been filtering it right?

Thanks all so much. I can definitly tell that my amp is FINE just the crap audiobahn subwoofer that is supposed to be 2000 W RMS (that we all know means 200 max since audiobahn) is really getting pushed to hard. Its xmax is like what I see on RE XXX videos. :0( and it supposed to be only 17 mm instead of RE XXX's 32 mm hehe.

Im pretty sure its going to pop soon. I guess I will need to buy an RE XXX. It could handle 2000 W all day right?
