Cooling a sub then playing it hard again

Last night it was around 50F and throughout the night i was playing hard then litting it sit while driving w/ windows down. After a while of this pattern i smelled glue (it smelled exactly like brand new Level 5s breaking in actually) from my Fi. Is this good or bad?

you were probably smelling the coils not glue

Depends how long you were letting the sub cool and how long you were playing it hard, and also depends if you are sending a clipped signal or not.

It could just be excess glue on the sub that's smelling, or it could be your coil. If you smell it again, you should touch your dustcap, if it feels hot then you're burning your coil.

The dust cap was warm, but not hot. The air in the port was warm but not 'hot'. We even smelled the port after and didnt smell glue in it

Probably burning your coil then

How long were you letting it cool down between playing it hard? And theres no telling if you're clipping your amp or not.

only a dd-1, but since then i turned the gains down a bit

Yes sir,Coils getting pretty darn heated up/COOKING!! Look under Help 101, should be a thread on how to set your gains properly..Check that out ,before you blow those subs/possibly..Folks have deep pockets these days

Track 5 on the cd, the -10db one

Ok....and when you smelled the glue were you listening to chopped and screwed or mp3/4 or an actual CD. What kind of music.

Just off the amp, i was playing Hypnotized(think it was the decaf one) when i noticably smelled it, then juicebox

I know it wasnt coil i smelled. Ive burned enough subs previously to know what coils smell like

well there is your problem...

playing that music when its set with a -10 that is.
