Controlling T/A and crossovers from HU on 3-way front stage

This is my first post, but I've spent many hours reading and searching. Great forum! I'll try to keep the question clear...

I have a Kenwood x997 HU that has decent eq, crossover and T/A controls. I'll be running 6.5" midbass (Hertz) in the kick panels, 3-4" mids (undecided on brand) and JL tweets in the doors. Planning to use a JL 300/4 I have on a shelf with a passive crossover between the mids and tweets. An SA-8 and JL XD600/1 will be in the trunk. No rear fill. I'd like the ability to control speakers individually from the HU if possible (for ease of on-the-fly tweaks and time alignment). I have an JBL MS-8 in my truck I can pull out, but I'd rather not.

The HU has 6 outputs (fronts, rears, subs). Can I feed my mid/tweets from the "front" inputs and the midbass from the "rear"? That would give me the channels I need, but I can't find out from searching if that's a no-no. As a side benefit, I can adjust mid-bass with the fader... lol. I know I can split the front RCA and use the amp's crossover, but I'm concerned about loss of fidelity and having to keep running to the trunk to play with things.

As a secondary question, I'll have 75W available for the mids/tweets. Any suggestions on a not-insane-price mid?

since you have a passive crossover for the mid/tweet, they are only a pair of channels anyway. using the fader to adjust level between mid/highs and midbass is the correct method with your setup. some decks with active capability also have level adjustment for each channel (independent of fader).

the sub output should be non-fading so you can use the fader to adjust amplitude (you'll probably fade to "rear" a bit to get more power to the midbass relative to front).

don't forget to attenuate the driver side tweeter a bit for level balance (helps with soundstage center). you can do this with some crossovers with tweeter pads.
