Connecting portable mp3 player to car system

I would like to connect a portable flash/CD/hard drive mp3 player to the car system. My problem is that mostly all mp3 players do not start playing after power up, at least I don't know any which does. I want to connect the player and "forget" about it. I want it to behave as a indash player - start/stop playing after turn on/off the car.

Could anybody recommend a reasonable solution?

I don't think you see the problem that I have.

When I give the power to the mp3 player (which is not designed for car) it does not start playing until I press couple of buttons. Which is inconvenient esspecially when the player is hidden somethere in the car. I am looking for a solution to overcome this.

I know how to connect audio part to the existent stereo system.

modify the player?

if you're asking about breaking open the case and hacking the unit's internals...i would think a group devoted to hacking these sorts of things would help you out more.

i HIGHLY doubt this is possible, nor could you navigae your mp3's via your headunit *you said you're going to hide it* you would have to rig up a dc lead taht goes internally to the mp3 player that bypasses the on button/s, good luck, but taht still doesn't solve your prob if you truely plan to just put it somewhere hard to get to, when switching songs, nor would it automatically play on powerup... if you figure this out, hehe, hook me up :)

if you haven't purchased an mp3 player yet, get the apple ipod. with the ipod, there are many aftermarkets products available since it's the most popular mp3 player at the momment. i use it with my system. i have a belkin car kit with provides a line out signal and also charges my ipod at the same time. best of all, it will pause my ipod when i turn my car off. there is this product that i want to get called ice link which allows a head unit to control the ipod. it intergrates the ipod as if it was a cd changer allowing you to fully control the ipod from your head unit. i believe it also displays the song info on your head unit.

OFFTOPIC^you got a weird plate on your van. ive never seen one like that before.^
why is it off topic? isn't he looking for a portable mp3 player that is able to turn on/off by itself? i believe my post provides some info to answer his question.

btw, my plate is the special olympics plate. it's a newer version of the olympic plate they released during the olympics in los angeles.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't choose the player yet, so you advice is very helpfull.

Does the Belking kit turn the player on after turning on the car?

i think, perchance, that he meant that what he said was off topic, as above, not the advice you gave //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

it's not as popular as the ipod and not supported as widely by 3rd party products, but IMHO, it wins hands-down. Coming from a previous 2nd gen ipod user.

In terms of getting it wired in the car, once you throw it in the dock, it comes on when it sees AC power....
