Connecting Head unit to amp and sub

I have a head unit that has the rca connectors for front and rear but no sub. Is it still possible for me to install a amp and a sub to one of those, if so, wouldnt i have to control the sub by by balancing the front and rear thru the settings of my head unit? Would that cause any complications?

Use the rear RCA, use the bass on the headunit and the gain of the amp to set subwoofer, not the fader. And then your fader can still work as a a fader for the system, but the sub will be affected as if it is a rear speaker. .
