okay. so mid point of the back 1/3rd would be fine then I take it. Do I chamfer both ends of the PVC or only the box wall end?

Yes, exactly. and yes chamfer the edge off, just the outside. It's not absolutely necessary, but paying attention to every little detail just improves the finished product. That will further help eliminate any potential port noise.

Ended up ordering a Lanzar Max8 from Sonic for $31.59 shipped (amazon price match) and built the box out of 11 layer birch yesterday. The only change I made was making the port 12.8" long for a slightly higher tune. Pics when the sub comes on Monday. Box is drying until then.

the ported end was slipped over a post to paint the box. That is why that end looks like that. It also looks less streaky now too. Base coat was latex exterior flat grey rolled on with foam roller. Top coat is DupliColor trunk bed liner rattle bomb.
