Computers? Cars?

a HDD also has an air hole. if you look at your HDD very closely you will find a small hole that usually has "DO NOT COVER" somewhere near it. so you would somehow have to make sure that air can get in/out of the hole. otherwise the HDD wont work properly.
that just gave me another idea to my crazy contraption. Get a hose to go from the submerged box to the outside and put a fan in the ventilation tube. Get a second tube to go in so it has air to **** out. haha I should build one of these and call it a HD shock absorption and heat dissipation cage. heh. I might actually throw somehting like this togetohr in the future, unless someone can throw out some unaddressed problems with it.

the purpose of the air hole isnt for venhilation. the air hole allows the moving parts to hover above others. if you were forcing air in/out that would probably alter/disrupt the aerodynamics, in turn messing up the moving parts, needless to say that would be bad. your idea would be fine, minus the fans. also, you would probably want to cover the entire HDD in a plastic bag or something that would make sure the HDD isnt being touched by the gelatinous liquid (from this point henceforth i shall reefer to the gelatinous liquid as goo as it is too long to type) because you wouldnt want the goo seeping in through a small crack over time. there might be something in the goo that would be conductive and fry the circuts that are exposed on the exterior on some HDD's.
if you end up making it you are definetly going to have to post pics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

edit: i just re-read what i quoted and i think i may have been mis-interpreting it. regardless the HDD WOULD need some venhilation, but stay away from fans that are super powerful. also, make sure that it isnt blowing straight onto the air hole because of the aerodynamics.

a HDD can survive that for 2 ms according to the website. it takes a LITTLE bit longer to turn/accelerate/brake than 2 ms. i dont remember the exact number, but the distance between the head and the platter is VERY VERY small.
ya its really really small, like even a piece of dust can throw off the head or if u touch it the oil from ur finger will throw it off

what you need to do is what i saw in a cop car once. they have the laptops mounted on the console between the passenger seat and the driver seat. well anyway, he had a little aluminum duct going from one air vent (completley covering the air vent) into the side of the laptop. he'd obviously modded it a bit, but it makes sense, and it would definately keep the computer cool.

it doens't matter how hot the laptop/desktop gets when you're not in the car, but as soon as you get in a hot car, you're going to turn on the air, and when you turn the laptop on, air will be blasting through it. therefore, it will stay cool //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
