Computer setup..

This isnt really like home "theater audio".. but i need a new pc setup. Ive had the creative 5200 5.1 speakers for a few years and ive abused the hell out of them, theyre dead. I know i should be shelling out more to get better speakers, but this is just for my room, nothing major super good. Dont want to spend any more than $120 or so... Its gotta be 5.1, Any ideas?

maybe over 120, but for 5 speakers (still need sub) u wont find better (unless u do fullrange)

Not as pricey as i thought it would be... What would i need to order with that to make it come to life? I dont think thats something i would be able to handle making myself right now.

yes you need a receiver. since it is dayton, i am almost positive it'll be good. i've never heard a bad dayton product.

Because all i can have and can afford right now is the sound card i have now which will only support up to 5.1... so thats what i want. And this isnt a project. thanks for the aDvice. when i get a apartment i will have a home theater project. If im going to shell out money like that, its going iN a fuggin car.

Why does it need to be 5.1 ?
Anyways, what I would do is start bulding a HT 5.1 system and use it for your computer/room until you move out. I'd start off with a pair of towers/bookshelves and work your way to sub, center channel, etc.

What you'll need ...

Sound card with RCA output or mini-headphone to RCA adapters

Receiver

Speakers

Speaker Wire

Computer Audio = t3h sUx

the sound card has no way of knowing how many speakers are hooked up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. it can run in stereo just fine. there isn't a sound card on the market that is ONLY surround sound supportive. it just isn't the way audio works.
