for all of you computer guru's, how do i determin what kind of ram i have in my computer? all i have is 512 but want to upgrade to at least 1 gb. anyway of knowing?

Open the side of your comp and look at the RAM. There's usually a sticker on the side that will say the type of RAM (DDR PC2700, etc...)

Or get CPU-Z it'll tell you the latencies as well.

download sandra and run the mainboard information utility. that will tell you everything about your box!!

don't open your laptop if you don't know much about comps. if it's a dell laptop go to their website, plugin your service tag number and it'll show your comps complete specs. I think that works at least.

Most laptops have a compartment/plastic cover on the bottom of them. The compartments are usually screwed in. The ram should be under there. Otherwise, you might not be able to upgrade it.

it says it can be upgraded to 2 gb. it is a couple year old xps m140

if its like both my dell laptops one of the doors on the bottom (which can easily be removed) is where the ram is. its very easy to remove and put in.
