Interesting theory.

well considering I run a network of over 2000 machines and have tried it an more than 1 occasion its pretty much proven that right out of the box it will not run smooth. Stripping down is one thing, but I can tell you trevor is not computer literate enough to tackle stripping down the OS, Im wary about him reformatting the computer himself in all honesty.

well like i said i have the original 98 windows install cd, but i do not own the system restore cd and that what i want to do.

brother man u need to atleast have windows xp on a computer that has 256 as noted above but prefer to have a 512 mb ram memory, also get alteast a 2.0 gighz processor to run with that.

I did upgrade i bought a computer from nvrukus but when it got here fedex had destroyed it.

Well I don't think I can be of any help to do a restore to a previous state. Tell me your laptop model maybe I can track down the restore cd (if one was ever made)

When i got this laptop it had a restore feature built in when windows was booting up it always showed at the top press f11 to system restore and then today it stopped saying that so i have no idea how to restore now. i have used the f11 to restore before though and it worked but now its gone so i dont know what to do

I can say from experience as well that straight off the CD, winXP (pro) won't install on less than 128mb of RAM. At least with 32, 64, and 96MB it won't.

IMO, a machine that old is hardly suited for Windows nowadays. =\

after reading it I dont see anything that says drivers. Im not 100% sure what that cd is. It looks to be something to repair ready installed windows or reinstall various OSes.

Only the bottom link worked. I've never bought a cd like that. I would say check the feedback and give it a try though. Its only like 20 bucks. Not a big deal at all. I did run a search through the torrents and couldn't find one. Not to say there isn't one though. Just depends on how patient you are.

I wouldnt waste my time. You have 600Mhz processor and 64MB ram what it would take to upgrade that lappy to run XP smoothly you could of just bought a desktop.

as for which cd they both look to be the same but I never used either.

Only reason i wanted to restore was cause the other night i got a ton of spyware installed on my laptop and ive used both ad aware and spybot and got rid of all i could but now my internet just isnt running the same
