Computer people I need your help

Do you have a Windows installation CD?

Or if you go to:

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

You may be able to restore the PC back to the original factory contents, depending on who makes your laptop.

Or, call the manufacturer and tell them what happened, they should hook you up with a system resotre CD, HP did that for me a few months back for my moms computer.

1.i have the windows install cd that came with the computer.

2.My system tools doesn have system restore under it maybe its because i have windows 98

unless this is a high end win 98 laptop i would just get a new computer u need xp man.....i mean for real it came out in 01 and u still have 98? major time for an upgrade.... at least to win 2000

windows 98? reformat and start over //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif better make sure you have all the drivers though. I would tell you just use the XP cd i sent you but your lappy might not be XP compatible

Yea well try buying one only to have fedex drop it and destroy it and them taking forever with a claim

What are the specs on your computer? It may be possible to install a lite version of winxp. Let me know and I may be able to get you whatever you want.
Justin
I have winxp on a disk already but have not installed it because of having windows 98

Specs i know of:

Windows 98

63mb ram

Neomagic magic media 256av

cant remember what else i have

64MB of ram I wouldnt put that XP i gave you. Its Professonal and runs like shit with less than 256MB ram. Ive tried it on mahcines with 128 and it took 5 minutes to load windows.

I have the 98 cd too, main problem is im trying to do system restore a few days ago on start up evreytime it would say press f11 to restore and ive done this before well up until yesterday it has stopped saying press f11 to restore so now i have no idea how to restore it.

Interesting theory. It can run on 64 MB of RAM, but you need to hack some files in order to do that. It will not install on a computer "out of the box" with 64 MB.

However, you say that it takes 5 minutes to load windows with 128 MB? I used to run it on a p2 400 MHz pc with 128 MB RAM and it ran beautifully. I stripped it down of all it's pretty much useless visual effects and it had no problems.

Anyways, you really do need to at least get win2k. There's pretty much no excuse to still be using win98. It's just too old and there are way too many holes in the coding.

I agree. Windows 2000 pro may be the way to go. About the same specs as win98 and a tad more reliable.
even 2k had a 128MB recommended for smooth running. 64 was the bare minimum. and it it a memory ***** compared to 98. I would stick with 98 on that machine and get the drivers and reformat.
