Well my moniter is just about toast so im going to buy a new one, but i figured since i am heading off to a college dorm next week, i should get one of those moniters that can double as a TV as well. I found a couple but have a quick question. My graphics card (Radeon x1800 GTO) has an S-video output on it, and a lot of TV's out there have the S-video inputs. Will this function the same as a VGA or DVI plug, or am i going to see a decrease in graphics and whatnot? Any help/opinions would be great! im going to buy a moniter tomorrow i think.

the max resolution is horrible on s-video so everything will either look huge or blurry. It will look fine when watching a movie but thats about it. You will definitely want vga/dvi on whatever lcd tv you find.

another option is you can get a cheap computer monitor and a tv tuner for you computer. They have ones that require your computer to be on and ones that are totally seperate from the computer.

both have their advantages, the one that requires your computer on usually has some tivo like features, and you can record tv onto your computer. the advantage of the other one obviously is that you dont need your computer on to watch tv

prices for tv tuners run as low as $30 so it might be cheaper find a monitor that doesn't have a built in tuner and buy the tuner seperate.

also if you have a vcr you should be able to use that as a tuner as well, as long as it has rca outs.
