Computer Help

Can someone link me to AVG, im trying to find something for free. I already purchased something. I will have to get the name of it. I am trying to restore my system again now. I really didnt have any antivirus on there when whatever i got hit.

Got a Toshiba Satellite ( Great Laptop FTW ) and i got a virus downloading music and now i cant get it to let me restore the system, i just keep getting error messages. I tried asking best-buy but they just wnat to charge me $200 for a bunch of stupid junk. Anyone have any ideas.
Get a new hard drive...... Load Windows to the one. Copy all the files you need to the new hard drive. Laptop drives are mad cheap. You could get over 100 gig for like 60 bucks.

I have an external with all my stuff backed up. I dont have the money to just go dropping a new Hard drive in this comp. I cant get to the internet to download anything because of all the error messages and junk.

what do you mean system restore doesnt work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
most viruses corrupt the registry, and the registry backup usually isn't very good. Which means you can "restore" to a point, but it probably won't fix 100% of your problems.

but if i can restore to a point and then sweep and antivirus the hell out of whats left i should be good, which is what im trying. I dont know why i can get it to restore. Im using the original restore disc that came with the computer.

Yeah, maybe my method will not work for you. You'd still need to buy a cable to piggyback the old drive to pull the info off of it.

Does it at least boot to Windows? You could try to boot it in safe mode (Holding F8 when you first turn it on.)

Download malwarebytes as suggested and Alvira Antivirus. If it is a virus, those should work.
