Well I'm tired of working off this old *** pentium 833mhz proc 512mb of focking pc133ram computer that my fiance has. Problem is I have a nice pc that I built about 14 months ago that is collecting dust and doesn't work. I've never been able to get it running and was wondering if anyone could possibly offer up a good place to have it looked at? Hell if someone on here was actually trustworthy and savvy enough at pc's i'd pay to have you look/fix it. So I guess let me know.

turns on, fans turn(except for the vid card fan on the vga cooler i bought) but no picture on my screen. i just get the amber light as if it were the monitor being on but no pc on. i'm thinking need a new video card? that's just an expensive gamble.

i've never gotten it to give a signal to my monitor though so i think it just might be the video card.

yea what i would do get a cheap cheap vid card...like 15 dollars and test it out. if the replacement works then your vid card was the problem....oh wait when you turn the computer on, does it make that *beep* noise?

but from what youre essplaining, my guess is the vid card, cuz the vid card fan should turn on when you power up ya know.

im goin to bed now ill be back in the morn

Yeh like flakko said, u can usually tell whats wrong by the *beep* it makes. If its a short beep, it usually boots into windows all well and good. If it makes a long beep, then usually there is something wrong with the video card and/or RAM. When I built my first my PC, i didnt mount the motherboard properly to the case, and shorted the motherboard //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif So yeh, if your computer wont make any beeps at all, its prolly cos u might have shorted the motherboard or one of the other major components. Best to bite the bullet and get it looked by a professional, at least they know what they are doing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Did u short the motherboard like me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif LOL?
A bad power supply could be the culprit as well in this situation.
It is really hard to narrow down the failing part without a surplus of parts to exchange in and out with to determine this. So unless you know a geek who just keeps extra hardware lying around, you may need to go somewhere to have it checked. Without beep codes from the BIOS, it would juat be a big guessing game and without extra parts to exchange, you would be buying parts that may not necessarily be the problem. That could prove more costly than paying a shop to look at it.

You should be getting beep codes. Make sure the case-speaker is connected. If that board is posting AT ALL, it will beep.

And, maybe you just need to re-seat the card. Some cards have an extra connector for power. Did you RTFM?

I'm in Austin and might be able to take a look at it for you. Or, I could suggest a place near campus do it. SAMs computers on the drag (Guadalupe) near Dean Keaton. They charge $25 for a diagnosis but thats a lot cheaper then most "pros."
