ok so heres the story light storm knocked my power out in my computer then it would not turn back on well took me a while to figure out how to fix things but i came across to this problem. Well heres whats going on now if i turn off the computer normally it works fine if i push and hold the power button in the front on the case it will turn off and on fine. Well if i hit the power supply switch in the back and push the button to off on the ps itself it will turn off but not turn back on same thing will happen with it i unplug it from the power cord from the power supply. Now heres the weird part when i leave it unpluged for about 30 min- 1 hr then plug it back in it will turn on and have power to the mb again. but if i wai tlike 5-20 min it will not power on the mb any idea what the problem is i alrdy tried a new ps so i am guessing its a mb issue but i also thought it might be a grounding issue with the mb to the case its not that also so wats making my mb do this also its been freezing up alot lately as well. So if someone can plz help me with this problem it would be greatly appreciated sry about bad spelling and bad sentence structure.

well .. the lightning storm probably shorted your motherboard .. if that is the case .. then time for a new mobo .. while your at it buy other new items like cpu or stuff like that. Or you could Divide and conquer .. swap out old for new items in your comp .. to test out what might be wrong ... like try swapping the ram and turn it on ... then swap out videocard .. etc.. OR you could just try replacing that Lithum battery .. might or might not work ...

but is it rated high enough, most surge protectors I have found at local shops, (BB, CC, Wally) aren't really rated for anything but brown outs, black outs, and small spikes. Also check all the capacitors on your board for swelling. If you have any, its obvious time to replace. Also if it happens to be an e-machine, just swap out both MB and PSU. one too many times I have swapped boards in an emachine with a PSU that tested good, just to have it kill the new board the next day. So now if I have to do one or the other, I just do both. Saves time and hassles for both me and the customer.

no its a dfi mb and i will check for swelling also the surge protector is like 7 yrs old so maybe it is time for a upgrade. but i did say good surge protector which it is cause i never had this problem before.

yea .. if its 7yrs .. def. time for an upgrade ... mobo + proc combos are getting cheaper and same thing with RAM .. 2GB can run you about 150$ .. mobo and proc combos i have seen as cheap as just buying a mobo and receive a free proc. Video cards are pretty cheap too .. get like an 8600GT and you'll be alright ..
