Aight, my friend's computer messed up, so I took a look at it. It wasnt starting up, so I figured the PSU went out. So I brought it back to the house, and hooked my PSU to it, but I didnt hook up the HDD CD-DRive ect., just the main mobo power thing. It the computer turned on, so I was like you got a bad PSU.

But then later, I decided to mess around wit it, and took my PSU back out of my computer and and hooked it up to his and hooked everything up: HDD, MOBO, optical drive, floppy. Then I powered it up, everything seemed to start up, except the screen was blank, and not doing anything. Checked all the cables, they seem fine.

Then noticed when I am turning the computer on, the CPU Fan, Optical drive, and floppy all turn on, but the HDD doesn't do anything I don't believe. Can't tell if the CPU turns on or not, but kinda sounds like it does, the high frequency buzz or wutever.

The computer doesnt do any "thinking" whatsoever.

Hooked my HDD to it, same thing, no thinking.

Bad MOBO?

The computer is a E-Machines W2040. My friend has had it for a few years, but only used it about 10-20 times total. He doesnt get on the computer much. I can tell being that there is like no dust inside the computer or around the fans //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

LOL. dude dont try to sell hosting then make threads like this LMFAO. no video to even show post is either motherboard, video, or memory. try swaping the video and memory 1 at a time, if its dual memory sticks try to remove one then the other. if neither fixes it then a bad motherboard which is common with emachines.

Eh, computer hardware troubleshooting has nothing to do with Linux hosting. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I started this thread before I told Jntar bout the hosting.

My web server is managed at a data center, therefore I have nothing to do with the maintaince and hardware, they have people round the clock that are trained for that shit. I know how to operate a functioning server, and know just about everything there is to know about troubleshooting programs and scripts on linux, its not that hard //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Anyways, back to the puter problem...

It is a kinda outdated system, the emachine has 128MB sdram I believe. I will try putting a shitty video card in it later this evening, don't believe the video is the problem, as the computer does not seem to be thinking.

LOL if you think a datacenter does more than make sure your server is plugged in your mistaken. You dont know as much as you think my friend. good luck on your "hosting" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif thats like saying your a computer programmer cause you can set the settings on your screen saver.

Processors don't make a noise unless they explode or fizzle.

edit: misread

Sounds like your powersupply isn't strong enough for his computer. That or you forgot the 4-pin square power plug.

I have been "hosting" for 3 years. I know that they do more than make sure it is plugged in because I have live video of the data center 24/7, and I see them replace HDD's and putting more ram in occasionally. Guess you just like to give everyone a hard time that tries the web hosting business, because you have your own "hosting" business. Oh well, thats sounds like a personal problem.

I could care less if people from this forum buy hosting from me or not, because I am already making more than 230% profit off my server right now. Just thought I would suggest it to a fellow car audio enthusiast.

I don't know why you insisted on bringing up the fact that I don't know everything about computer hardware troubleshooting, means I am a bad web host. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

The PSU i hooked to it is supposed to put out more power than the OEM, and has enough power to run my computer, 2 optical drives, 1 floppy, and 4 case fans. Don't know. About to check the video and ram.

If the video isnt playing and its not running through post or the HDD aint even turning on, you can pretty much narrow it down to the mobo.

*edit*

my bad the HDD would turn on as long as it has power, just realized what i said

Plus its an E-machines, which I cant say much b/c I am on one right now. But I won it, so its allowed.

Lol, yea, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the MOBO. Guess ya get what ya pay for, don't shell out a lot for the computer, don't get a computer that lasts long.

LOL no im giving you a hard time because you are totally clueless. Unlike you I dont advertise my business on here I offered to jntar services but I dont go around pushing my company on anyone. I would be afraid of having hosting through someone that has no computer kno0wledge what so ever. How the hell can you support anything software related if you dont know the hadware in which it runs. the software works off the hardware and all program analysts have atleast basic knowledge of computer repair. This isnt your first noob post on computer shit including a question about what antiviruses they make for linux or something like that iirc mr linux guru LOL. I dont crap on real hosting companies just clueless kids that think they can rent space and resell it and claim to be a real hosting company cause you bring the prices down and we have to explain why we charge more because we offer support you couldnt possibly offer because you have no knowledge on the subject.

Show me one post where I advertised my site.

I don't claim to be a REAL hosting company, I am merely a reseller, which is what most people are anyhow, I am guessing that is what you are, a reseller.

By software, I mainly meant scripts that run off PHP, CGI, MySQL, etc. excuse my lack for a better term.

My customers never had any problems with me not being able to help them in the past 3 years, so I doubt they will have problems I can't help them with.
