Component placement?

I've got a 09 Nissan Sentra and the components would be in stock speaker location which is in the front door panels. Which is around the bottom corner of the panel. Will it make much of a difference that the tweeter and woofer will be down there? I've read where some people say the tweeters need to be closer to the ear. The components will be ran with an amp which puts out 50 watts. Thanks

Yeah I've been going back and forth between components or just coax. Everytime I seem to make up my mind, I then start thinking the other way! It just seems everyone says components are the best way to go for sq. I've only had one set of components, which were Infinity Kappas (green cone), back in the mid-late 90's being ran by a RF Punch 40ix amp and it was awesome! So I'm really thinking about just doin the components again. Obviousely not wanting the best, but definitely want a good decent set. I was just trying to make sure that it would be okay for the tweeter to be down towards the bottom of the door. I figured it would since on the Q logic kick panels they are located down there.

I prefer components myself...But, yes it does make a difference in sound.By being able to locate the tweeter, and or having it at a higher elevation..Gives you the option for staging,.Nothing wrong with coaxials, mainly fit and little modifications,Components, most have a bit more to consider..cross over box/ extra wire maybe for the tweeter/time to consider installing..There are coaxials out there that have just as good sq,if not more than components as well

Tweeters at the corners firing at the windshield, people say that is unacceptable. Thats what my suv has going on and they are very subtle audibly. Is there any way to correct this problem? I do not want to modify the vehicle.

I don't have a factory tweeter location. I have, I think, 3 1/2 speakers in the front of the dash corners that fire up at the windshield, although I planned on not using those. I can maybe put the tweeters in the pillars. I haven't taken them off to check, but would that be an ideal spot?

Pop those speakers out and replace them with tweeters mounted on a plate to fit the opening. A thin piece of ABS & a dab of silicone to secure the tweeter mount is all you'll need. If you're worried about getting the right placement/imaging; use some metal backstrap and leave the covers off for a week or so. You'll be able to play with aiming a lot easier with something as malleable as backstrap than it would be to mold something or futz with removing plates to move the angle mounts a few degrees.

One thing that frightens me about tweets in the pillars are the airbags many cars have there. Can you imagine a fender-bender launching a tweeter at you? That sounds like a recipe for making a bad situation worse.

no one can say what is "unacceptable" without trying it with the exact same vehicle and exact same speakers.

a-pillars require permanent modification (and you should consider airbags). the factory locations do not require much modification (none that is visible anyway). BnG describes how to mate tweeters to the factory 3.5" location.

the dash corner can sound good, but with improper speaker aiming you can get a reflection that results in a "harsh" sound. i find that fully off-axis in the dash corners or fully on-axis can work well. variations of being slightly off axis usually have lesser results. but you really have to try it to know for sure. it's easier than any other location.
