Component or Coaxial 6.5"'s?

I have a 2004 Nissan Sentra and I am looking to put in aftermarket speakers. The front and rear decks take 6.5" speakers and have a 2.25" mounting depth.

I would like to get some speakers which can handle 65-75W RMS.

I am sooooo confused right now!

There are a TON of component speakers out there, and many coaxials with crossovers.

I am not technically astute enough to get into custom fiberglass molding for components and their crossovers.

Can anyone suggest some good 6.5" coaxials without crossovers with 65W+ RMS?

I will pay up to $175/pair, so I'm not too limited money-wise.

that 2.25" mounting depth might hurt you a bit, but hold on...

Alpine Type-S = 50 RMS, 2.35" mounting depth

Polk Audio DB650 = 60 RMS, 2" mounting depth

but I have limited search abilities here at work. I would suggest Components if your car has stock locations.

Check into the Pioneer Rev coaxials. They're great speakers. If the depth is too deep, make an MDF spacer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

What ^^^^^ said.

And get an inexpensive Profile 4 channel amp to power them. You'll be happy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

No worries there. I still have a 50Wx4 DEI amp from 1997 that still works great. It's been in 2 car accidents and works like a charm. I really got my money's worth out of that bad boy!

I have an 03 SpecV and am in the process of building my system right now.

A few notes-

Your front doors are SEVERELY limited as to mounting depth. You have less than 1.9" of depth, which takes many quality midbass/midrange drivers out of contention. Also, the stock mounting surface is a weird shape.

I made adapters to make them work (PM me if you are interested in a set). Here is a pic of them:

Are you on the Vboard or b15sentra.net?

If I were you, I'd run some moderately-priced coaxials in the rear and components in the front. Which audio package do you have? (If you don't know this, just tell me whether you have any subwoofers or whether the car has tweeters in the dash pillars).

Just a quick summary of my setup:

HU: Pioneer Premier DEH-P580MP

Front: Hertz ESK 165S 6.5" components

Rear: Stock

Sub: Image Dynamics IDQ-10 (sealed)

Amp: Xtant 404m (2 channels bridged to sub, 2 channels for Hertz comps)

My local HHGregg store has a special on Infinity 6.5" REF6012I speakers at $90pair. They run 60W RMS and 2-1/16" mounting depth. Should I get them? The price looks good and the mounting depth should be do-able.

Yes? No?

Refs are not bad...I'd buy Pioneer REVs before I bought the Infinitys.

Edit: I did not look them up, but if the Refs are components, they are probably worth the $$$.

Do you have stock A-pillar tweeter mounting points?

I'll check out those Pioneers.

Those Infinities aren't components.

I'd have to check, but I'm assuming I don't have the tweeter mounting points. Dealing with the install of component speakers sounds like a huge pain in the neck, so I'll just get some...uhhh...err...non-component speakers (is the word I'm looking for "coaxials"?)

This is O2 SENTRA and I have both in my Sentra!!I started out with the Alpine Type "S" 6.5" co-ax all the way around on the inside. They are powered by the Alpine 450-F 4-channel(70 x 4) at 4 ohms. (100 x 4 ) at 2 ohms.I then ,by the advice and prior usage of tweeters,my installer at San Diego Car Stereo had a set of the "S" components ,or should I say 1/2 the set.He installed the cross-overs and was able to mount the tweeters in the front doors with ease. This is run by a 9847 head unit. The subs are in a vented enclosure. They are powered by the Alpine mrp-650-M-mono-block.The subs are the new JL 12-w3-3-4,wired parallel to 2 ohms to use all of the 600 watts available. My friend at the shop is leting me demo some of the new type "R" co/ax that can handle 100 RMS.They sound great, but they would like the full 100 rms ,don't get me wrong they are really clean, but they could take more. The new tyre "R" co-ax have a 2.35 mounting depth instead of the 2 and 3/4 like the old 'R' s.The 's' co-ax have enough mid-bass when amped. The 'S' component set-up was good, but the tweeter and the co-ax gives the best.Try it,you'll see what I mean!GOOD LUCK!!!O2 SENTRA out...........Next Step--PDX-1000 and some 12 inch type 'R' subs...or should I go with the JL W6???Are KICKERS (subs) and their a good combo??I'd appreciate the feed-back....thanks in advance............................

go for components... coaxials dont image very well in the front... its better to have a seperate tweeter that you can angle and get better imaging that coaxials would ever do, unless you dont care about stuff like that
