I'm looking into some components for my truck. I've never owned a set so i need some advice from people that have heard their share.

The ones i'm looking at right now are:

ALPINE Type-R SPR-57LS 5"x7" Component Speakers $129

JL Audio XR570-CSi 5"x7" Component Set 5x7 $225

Infinity Reference 6800cs 5"x7"/6"x8" $90

I like the price of the infinity //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. But am i going to be disappointed with them.. cause an extra 40 bucks would be worth it if they're going to be better.

I'm putting these in the stock locatin in the doors, which is why i wanted the 5x7.

ANy opinoins or comments are welcomed.

I most listen to rock if that helps at all. I want to feel that bass drum.

Why not get adapters and put 6.5"s in there? A round speaker will sound better. I cant explain the technical side, might want to wait for jmac or squeak or someone to do that.

Adapters, i have heard of this. Can you elaborate or give me some sort of link where i can look to purchase? I just didn't want to have to get some custom kicks. Thanks,

I see a 6x8 to a 5.25". Will i loose some of that in your chest midbass? Any 5.25 that are recommend below 200 for a set?

Well harsh is determined on a person by person basis, I'd give as many of those speakers a listen as possible.

As for the 6.5's sounding ok, I don't see whay not. In a worst case scenario you might have to build your own adapter out of 1/2" MDF or something.

Most components I've heard (even really really expensive ones) CAN play low to like 30-40hz, but they can't do it loud or they'll burn up. If you want them to get low you'd most likely need to build baffles or kicks or something to seal them up and increase their power handling.

90w CAN, depends on the components.

You should look at the Monitor Audio speakers for sale on EBay.

Monitor Audio makes high end home speakers, but a few years ago they introduced some mobile speakers. Apparently, after a management change at Monitor, they discontinued them. Only a few sets were ever made. Here is their site, you can get an idea of the quality of their home speakers.

I bought a set of the 6.5 components from the person on EBay. They are beautiful, very solidly built and well worth the money, a steal really. His reserve price then was $150. Actually, the 5.25" set is a better buy dollar for dollar at only $99.

Like all metal cone Monitor Audio speakers they need a "break-in" period before they sound their best. I just finished breaking mine in for about 48 hrs and they are fantastic. Clear, crisp with a mid-bass that hits hard.

Because they were only available for a short time there is no real info on the web. I asked about them on a UK forum before I bought them:

http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=93484

They are rated at 200W, but I ran them with 80W and they got LOUD, and yes I could feel the bass in my chest! I don't think you'll find anything to compare at the price.
