Hey i am wandering are component cables the same as av cables i know there red blue green but are those just color coded for them to make it easy for everyone? I dont want to go buy any component cables when i have plenty of av cable to make my own 3 so i was wandering are they just color coded or special wiring underneath?

U can't use regular av cables for component cables. The comp cables are better quality and will send a better signal to the TV. The red and white av cables will not send the video signal.

You need RBG's, not just A/V. The RBG's split the signal up to provide a higher resolution picture, and are indeed different cables.

Noah and DB are correct, you can use yellow for audio, or white/red for video, and vice versa...

I did it last night not knowing I had a set of component cables, and the picture was no different to me,only thing is the color coding of the comp cables made it easier.

It will work, but not be of the highest quality.

Correct, and it should work, and of course it wouldn't have as high of a quality potential.
I guess I'm just trying to tell the OP that they are theoretically different cables with 5 ends w/ RBG's compared to 3 with A/V.
