Completley new to car audio and need help

This evening i am going to check out this setup, and was wondering how i can tell if the subs and amp are good, i am completley green when it comes to car audio stuff and dont want to buy blown stuff, they are used.

(1) JL Audio 500/1 Amp and (2) JL 12W3v2 Subs w/Box

he is re-hooking up the subs so i can hear them play and i dont know anyone to bring that knows about car audio

If it's me, first thing I look at is how clean the install is. If it's a very shitty wiring job, then pay closer attention than normal, assuming he's a dumbass and he hooked it up himself...

Look to make sure both woofers are moving in the same direction at the same time. In other words, look at both of the subs at once, make sure they're both moving in or out together, and make sure they're moving the same amount.

Also, listen to the subs themselves for rattle when they hit

That's the most simple way to take a look. Also ask the kid about where he purchased the items and how long they've been used

i'd say just make sure the amp doesn't cut out at higher volumes.

the guy is asking $375 for the set up, it sounds like a good deal to me but you guys are the experts, let me know how good of a deal it is

If the amp turns on, that's a good sign, not joking. Even if you end up having probs with the amp but it's running, it's not usually something too major. Advice above is all good. If you can, have him take out the subs from the box to see the whole sub and check for any physical damage.
