Complete install help

I have two Kenwood KFC-W3011's and a Kenwood KAC-8104D Amp along with just a simple sealed box for both of them from MTX. (Actually everything is shipping)

I have *no* idea where to start or what I need to do to install them. I was originally going to have CC or BB install it, but I've been convinced I can do it by myself. I saw a few different wiring kits at Walmart and I wasn't sure which one I needed, there were a few different wattages to choose from. Which one do I need for my setup?

And if anyone would like to help me with this install like what wires go where, what is wired to what, and etc. I'd greatly appreciate it!

It's going in a 66 Mustang if that makes any differences.

THere should be plenty of people down there willing to help you out. A few beers, food and money will have you rockin. DO NOT take your stang to CC or BB. I thought we been through ths before.

Then all I have to do is run a power wire from my battery to my subs and a wire to my HU from my subs? or amp?

Wires between subs/amps..power wire..HU wire..done?

If you knew atleast a thing or two, I'd really push for you to get this in, but IMHO, take it to CC or BB. They will not only get it working without messing stuff up... they will also warranty the work for lifetime of the vehicle. Now lets put this into perspective... a month down the road you're out of town... everything stops working. You would be going bumpless till you get home and spend hours upon hours making posts online/tinkering... possibly making the situation worse. Or all you do is go to the local best buy in that town with your receipt and get it fixed hassle free.

I've seen some absolutely ugly things come through the bay I work in now... as well as every one of my co-workers. They were all people that tried to save buck without knowing a **** thing. Most of them ended up with situations that ruined some of their gear, making them have to re-purchase, made the labor cost more due to us dealing with a mess, and hurt the re-sale value of their vehicle.

If you don't even know what wire you should probably use, or where to connect wires, why do you assume you can do it. Im not being an *******, or trying to put you down.

It's tempting but I ditched my friends every weekend for a year straight to work on my car and I'd hate for CC or BB to mess up anything :/

Its not like every best buy or circuit city is a butcher shop man. And honestly if anything happens, they are backed by a multi million dollar company that almost always pays out.

power w/ fuse from battery to amp, ground from amp to car chassis, rca's from HU to amp, speaker wire from amp to subs, remote wire from amp to switch/HU

theres your basic help on how to do it, im all for people gettin' to learn how to do this stuff, if your not crazy interested it can be pretty simple...

my suggestion, have someone you can either call or give you an experienced guided hand on this stuff...i was lucky to have a friend that could help the first time and a dad who knows all kinds of stuff about electricity, now im the experienced hand helping people....

honestly, the hardest and most frustrating part is just running the dang wires...lol

also...like he said, best buy won't screw you...

i have gotten an alarm from someone and thought about installing myself, decided i didn't want to deal with it, took it to car toys, and they said they won't install unless it's new in a box...(needless to say its laying on the floor of my closet still)

w/ that say....because of condition best buy and circuit city may not install if they aren't new, that way if you had a faulty part to begin w/ you can't blame them, so if you have used stuff make sure they will do it....if not, go for that or save 3 hours of fun and learning on a saturday!

warranty's are good...i personally enjoy troubleshooting the problem, it gives me a opportunity to learn....

but the ride home w/ no bump does ****..

now the reason i asked is, quite possibly very relevant to you....to run power to your amp you have to go through the firewall under the carpet or whatever type of floor you have...if its just the rubber mat kind like some older cars have then you just have to find a creative way to hide it....anyway, don't run your power wire under the car or outside, thats cheap and retarded...

also, run your rca's from the head unit to the trunk on the opposite side of the car than your power...otherwise you get noise over the rca's...well i do w/ my 4xamp not sure w the subs, but to be safe, go ahead and do that...your ground wire does not have to run much further than around the trunk area, just pull trim pieces and carpet and find a good ground bolt on the chassis...(like i said, not sure what that looks lie in your trunk, i have a honda, there are a ton of trim and stuff to hide it under...)

Ahhhh that's what tempts me to get it installed somewhere lol finding a way to run wires = easy, but when you throw in fuses and stuff i don't have a clue how i add a fuse in the wire and all

well if you get a wiring kit, it's somewhat already there...it's called an inline fuse, it sits in a cylindrical "waterproof" housing, that one shorter wire from the battery screws into one end and the rest of the wire going to the trunk screws into the other, it sits in the engine bay, mine just rests near my intake tubing but ideally you would mount it on some sort of mount to the fire wall...this is one style of them http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/1547140/vpcsid/0/SFV/30046

if you go one page back it shows that there are many styles, i would suggest one like this...and like i said, if you get a wiring kit, it should be included in that, what "wattage" kit you get will/should either beef up the rating of the inline fuse or lower it...

like i said, it's so much easier the first time around with a helping hand that can say "ok next we need to do this" or "this should go here"

well that doesn't seem bad at all now that you explained it.

is there anything else like that i should know other than what to connect to what?

and how do i figure that out by the way? Someone was explaining to me that something about the ohms for my subs/amp determines how i should wire my system? is there a diagram i can look up?

sorry for being so undescriptive i just really don't know what i'm talking about lol
