When I heard one, I didn't think any more than 500W was needed.

yeah i'm thinkin that stetsom 1k6d looks decent for my application if its a good amp and the price is right

You could probably find something used that'd do just as well as the Stetsom.

I had great luck with a PG Tantrum 1200.1 for years, but with Tripath chips being discontinued, not sure I'd buy one now.

you could run the IA 20.1 amp at 0.66 ohms, will put out plenty of power. There are a bunch of amps that will work with that low ohm load for $300-$400 and put out 1500+watts

But sound good doing it? for all intensive purposes lets say i wanted to win SQ comps.

If you truly were trying to win sq comps, you would not be worried about either msrp or thd below the thresh hold of human hearing.

If you really wanted to learn there is more then enough quality information on the importance of install, speakers and processing. Amplifiers are probably the least important factor of an 'sq' system.

I'm not literally trying to win an SQ comp but i want the best possible quality system within a reasonable budget.

IE: If my best option is the JL amp i'll buy the JL amp. But Trolling jackases on this forum seem to think they are dramatically over-priced, so give me one that does the job as good for less!

All those other things are important but right now i'm concerned with finding the right amp.

It's completely astonishing how some people have the audacity to completely ignore the question in the content of a post and assume they know everything.

the staging in the car is actually loud as heck, but will upgrade latter, sub needs the upgrade the most. i'm moreso after the chest punching mid-bass than the deep rumble sub-bass. think about a system that would sound great playing haste the day- "when everything falls away." but i also listen to alot of rap so it has to be able to hit lows too.

MMats makes .5 ohm stable amps. Have you looked into them. They are pretty sick.

Yeah, but, I thought they recommended .5 for competition setups only? Granted, they don't expressly say that it can't be run at .5 daily, but they don't necessarily advertise it as a .5 ohm daily amplifier either.

If the model number ends in .5 its a .5 stable amp. They advertise that.
