College, what schools to consider?

i also noticed you mentioned weather and that is a piss poor way to pick a school. that is one of my pet peeves when people i know pass up the chance to go to michigan, just so they can go down south. you are spending a lot of money on your future so go to the best school you can, and when you become successful then move down south if you want

Weather keeps me from applying to Dartmouth.

Plus, I don't like how yall say pop and most northeners I meet are rather rude.

If you plan on getting a master's, you undergrad isn't that important unless you want to go to a top tier school. Even then the ROI isn't that great.

I will probably go to the University of Georgia for my Master's (MBA, with corp finance concentration). I may apply to Cornell but it's doubtful that I will get it. What pushes me the most toward UGA is that my current employer will pay for 1 year of grad school, thus narrowing my selection.

Is there a particular firm you would like to work for? If so, maybe do a little research with blogs, vault.com, and the like to see from what schools they mainly recruit.

i don't like how southerners say soda and yall, and fixin but that wouldn't stop me. michigan is still one of the top grad schools in the country.

too use something as minuscule as the way michiganders say pop, is really a retarded way to pick a school. i really hope you were doing this in jest
No, it's actually a part of the school's culture is it not? Selecting a school without considering it's culture is as sorry as just considering PrincetonReview's ranking system. Although the OP is from the North, he should consider the culture of the school.

The school I went to is considered a suit case college. On the weekends, people are non-existant. I don't really want to be bothered by a bunch of fools yelling and acting immature. Plus, the school was local.

so you been to the state of michigan which has 10 million people and the campus of the university of michigan and have deducted that the people in michigan are rude? or are we going on stereotypes?

I am going on the people I have met from Michigan, as well as phone calls from recruiters for the school. I wouldn't go to Michigan to see Michigan, I would go to attend the university to increase my education. I am not some school spirit kind of guy.

wait, you said people from michigan are rude, based on (i'm going to estimate at most you have talked to 100 people from michigan) 0.00001% of the population? now i lost you between visiting the state and the campus as i don't understand the point you are trying to make?

The recruiters represent the school. If I do not like the word choice and language of the recruiters (who represent the school) then I can only deduce that I wouldn't like the school.

Visting the campus costs money. I could only really afford to visit 2 or 3 schools. Since the recruiters were not nice, then why would I allocate my limited funds to their cause.

The point I am trying to make is that you don't have very much real information to go on as it is quite cost prohibitive to do so. So... you must try to find out as much as you can about the school's culture. Sometimes you have to make those decisions on very limited information and sometimes those decisions may be wrong (although I do not regret not going to Michigan)

As for the weather, why should that not be a factor? I personally hate the snow. Why would I go to a place for even a brief period of time that had as much snow as Michigan does when I can find roughly equivalent schools without snow?

well i'm going to exit the thread now, but the fact you make decisions based on the fact that people in michigan say pop just left me stunned. i go to school to learn not to convenience stores. you do realize if you ask for soda or coke we do know what that is? my theory is i go to school for academics so i want the best academic school i can go to.

then you make a blanket statement like people from the north are rude based on conversations with 0.00001% of the population of one northern state? i guess now since i talked to you and too a grizzly bear type woman at a gas station in chattanooga, i can safely deduce that people in tennessee, don't bath regularly, have missing teeth, are overweight and don't like people who say pop.

I did mention other reasons why I did not choose the school. The pop thing was an aside....Notice I said most northerners I have met, not all the people that live north of Tennessee. I did not make an assumption about the state, I posted an observation based on my experiences.

I can't believe I got this much response from you...

GET THE HELL OUT OF THE U.S.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are many undergraduate programs abroad,, especially in Europe that are soooooo much cheaper than in the u.s. Gotta love the social sophistication. And no matter how much we try to deny it... in general,, western europeans are soooo much more classy, liberal and sophisticated than most amreicans.. Of course there are many exceptions on both sides, but.....

I got my first masters from Uppsala University in Sweden, which is one of the most prestigious institutions in the world,, working on a second masters now. Currently in Groningen, Netherlands..

NO CHOICE... Hit it Euro style..
