College, what schools to consider?

consider the texas schools, with that kind of SAT score im sure youd have a great shot at Texas A&M, and try for UT, both are amazing schools. However out of state is something major to consider, i am staying in state and going to texas tech (of course) and majoring in electrical engineering. With calculus under your belt, you might want to consider an engineering degree.

The citadel, is a military college, you cant leave during the week your freshman year to keep you focused thats why i need to go there. you said you want some were to keep you focused plus the weather is great.

sorry for the multiple post i keep reading other things, if you do decent in the citadel you are garunteed to get into musc, Medical University of South Carolina. Its considered one of the best in the southeast.

Maybe for undergrad, but for business school, you are quite incorrect. Employers pay for a pedigree. You go to Wharton, you will get paid quite a bit more than if you went to SOM. (Unniversity of Penn vs. Yale)
Undergrad doesn't matter that much if you plan on going to graduate school / professional school. It does for the top 20 schools, but not so much after that.

Also, Indiana's Keller school of business is top notch.

Yes, I was talking undergrad since he is a highschooler looking for schools. And I will agree with you about the grad schools. But if you do well enough at any decent undergraduate program you can get into many top grad schools. I had a few friends from Uconn get into Harvard Law.

And don't get me started on penn:laugh:

My girlfriend is going there and is majoring environmental studies:blowup:

That along with the incredibly high crime rate makes me not a big fan of that school. Not to mention, I think the school is very overrated. Wharton is great, but going there for environmental studies seems like a giant waste of money to me.

To get a better idea of what you actually can do, unweight your grades. Good schools do not weight AP classes. They are kind of expected so they do not bother give you an extra push for taking them. A couple of good bang for your buck schools in natural sciences is UC Davis and UC San Francisco. UCSF is renouned for their cancer work/oncology. As for your schooling, the lack of extra-cirriculars will hurt you. If you feel determined to go to a certain quality of school, go to a JC then transfer. It is way easier to go to a good school from a JC than high school.

if you plan on grad school, location isnt nearly as important as grades. so dont set yourself up for mediocre grades by going somewhere really challenging

Auburn is the shit as far as SEC schools go. Im going there starting in the fall and planning on doing aerospace engineering at this moment.

I am planning on going to medschol but everyone i know that has done that sais dont do a biology or pre-med major. Reasons being 1)if you dont get in you cant really do any thing with it 2) when applying to medschool they like majors other than biology and pre-med b/c that is what they see everyday and they want someone more unique

You can do so many differnt things with a biology major, thats why so many people take that and buisness

Man there are soo many opportunities. Im going the very last place I imagined I would go. I had several offers, mostly from military schools. After a semester at the AFA i decided to try Oklahoma State for a semster, which is where i am currently finishing my freshman year. I love it here. The people are amazingly friendly and most the professors actually give their times to making people excel. As far as focus goes, there are not a vast amount of distractions...outside of stillwater consuming 1% of the nations alchohol. i urge you to take a look at OSU especially if engineering is a route you might be interested in. Im a CivE major and i Love it here.

The Citadel is good, but there are alot of underlying politics. My friend is Sophomore there. And hell week made about a 1/3rd of of his class leave the school haha. But if he's got the mentality to go by all means it's cool. If not, look at the University of Florida. They get the job done there, and it's pretty prestigious.
