So Kinda of a general topic but i have a few questions

-Who uses it Besides ED for building car audio related accessories

-What is a good place to by a cheap working CNC kit

-What is a good place for a DIY working CNC kit

I found (http://buildyourcnc.com/latest.aspx)

Im really curious about CNCs and would love to have one down the road.

Not just for building boxes and such but it just seems like a good investment.

You can pretty much cut out any shape with precision and it frees up time you have to sit there cutting and measuring away.

Can anyone further educate me on these and what i would have to do If i want to acquire one.

Im more of a DIY type of guy and Money is tight but cmon, a cnc machine would be awesome for all sorts of reasons.

baller, move to north carolina so i can use it when u purchase one :p

No doubt I would let it go to work on this forum but that is being that i can even save up the 500-1500$ to make a diy one in the first place.

I know i have the ability to make one, its just about time, patience and funding.

A CNC router (which I assume is what you're tlaking about for box building) is going to run you several thousand dollars. They're not some thing that you buy just cause it would be cool to have. It isn't cost effective for anything below mass production level stuff. For the one off setup, by the time you've written the code for the CNC, you could have made the part via manual methods 2x over.

Ive seen the thousand dollar setups you are talking about and obviously those are the ones I cannot afford.

I am talking about the DIY ones ive found on the internet that can be put together for less than $1500. I wouldn't believe them myself if not for actually seeing videos of them in action. And for the most part they did just fine.

For example go to this page and watch the video. That is the result of a home brew setup.

If you go cheap you would be disappointed and would want to The upgrade is not cost-efficient at all, unless, like helotaxi said, you are mass producing stuff or require that sort of precision (like compressor parts that require 1/1000th tolerance).

I grew up around CNC's and they are awesome machines, but I really know of no one under a couple mil net worth who has a personal one that is worth a shit.
