when ur amp is trying to put out more then it can...

resulting in a bad signal which can make ur subs really hot and eventually burn out.

correct me if im wrong

clipping is pushing your amp too hard and it distorts the sound wave which can burn up speakers real quick

i see cuz i have the two earthquake subzero subs which use fuses in the terminals and it was blowing the fuses in one of the subs and they were getting pretty warm after only a couple of minutes

you can make your amp or cd player clip as long as your speakers can handle it cause a clipped signal is like 2x the power

so if you have a 500 watt amp and clip the hell out of it, it could be like 1000 watts

im using a 600 watt amp and clip the hell out of it but my sub can handle 1200+

i wouldnt do that with your mids and highs, it will probably sound bad but with a sub, you cant hear it

some amps clip a lil past half way on the gain...

all depends on the amp..

did you use a dmm when setting the amp?

cuz you will be able to tell if it is clipping using a dmm, the voltage will jump around..

hmmm.. the subs are 1000rms each have them wired together I believe to a 1ohm load and the amp is capable of 1800rms at 1ohm maybe i have the amp hooked to 2 15" audiobahn eternals and they do fine dont get hot or nothin do you think it would be putting out to much for the subzeros? I didnt mess with any of the settings on the amp

it will get louder, i have a $3000 spl meter and scope to prove it , sounds fine to me

i might have them wired wrong the terminals on these earthquake subs are a bit wierd http://www.earthquakesound.com they have the psp teminal which a fuse fuses the duel voice coils together im pretty confused on these i dont wanna jack them up they were freekin expensive
