clearer sound

i have a 1990 chevy 1500. i just put in 2 12inch blaupunkt subs and a 600 watt amp. there is too much bass and not enough highs. when i crank it up my front 4x6s pop and distort. should i buy some bass blocker for them or is there anything else i could do.

BASS BLOCKS MIGHT HELP(FAIRLY CHEAP TO BUY SO MIGHT WANT TO JUST GIVE IT A TRY), BUT THE PROBLEM IS PROBABLE CAUSED BY THE FACT THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO PULL POWER FROM A HEAD UNIT THAT CAN'T PROVIDE IT. IF YOU ARE STILL USING THE FACTORY HU IN YOUR VEHICLE, THEN I WOULD START BY REPLACING THAT. IF YOU HAVE REPLACED THE HU, THEN I WOULD LOOK AT YOUR SPEAKERS. IF THEY ARE STOCK I WOULD REPLACE THEM. IF THE HU AND SPEAKERS HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED ALREADY, THE ONLY THING I WOULD RECOMMEND TO DO WOULD BE TO GET A SMALL AMPLIFIER TO RUN THE 4*6(PROBABLY YOUR BEST OPTION). THIS WILL CLEAR THINGS UP BECAUSE THE AMP WILL PRODUCE A CLEARER MORE POWERFUL SIGNAL.

iF YOU REALLY WANT TO GET GOOD MIDS AND HIGHS AND HAVE SOME MONEY TO SPEND, TRY REPLACING YOUR 4*6 WITH A SET OF SEPERATES(SPEAKERS WITH SEPERATE TWEETER, MIDRANGE WOOFER, AND CROSSOVER) AND AN AMPLIFIER. IT MAY REQUIRE SOME FABRICATION ON YOUR PART TO GET THE SPEAKERS TO FIT, BUT AM FAIRLY CONFIDENT THAT THE RESULTS WILL BE WELL WORTH IT.

i have an aftermarket headunit. it is a jenson 50x4. the speakers are 2-way pioneer

4x6s. i want to be able to blast the highs so people dont only hear bass.

I had the same problem you did. I bass blockers and the eq on my hu. I set the bass all the way down, and turned the treble all the way up. I basically tuned it so that my hi's were at their peak at the same time my sub was at it's peak. If I had the money I would have gone with a crossover, but the bass blocker works well enough for me. Some bass still gets through, but it's not nearly as bad.
