class d fullrange

ive read some reviews- apparently they're really nice and small with low power consumption. I've heard they suffer from a low damping factor that makes for a fuzzy low end on the components.

I've never used one, but they are actually fairly popular in home audio, where a difference in amps would be more readily apparent. I've owned a couple T class amps before (full range d's), never put them on anythign playing over 80, but I don't see any reason why they'd be much worse, if any, audibly of course.

While they may have a comparatively lower DF compared to some A/B amps (such as Arcs, with a rated DF of 2k)....any quality designed and constructed full range class D (such as the Alpines, Eclipse, etc) will have a more than sufficient damping factor. The CA&E guys are pretty funny at times......

All in all, you shouldn't hear any difference between a quality A/B and a quality class D.

Class D's have improved greatly the last few years. 5 years ago I would have said forget it, class D topology amps sounded horrible for anything but the extremely low bass because the switching frequency wasn't high enough to get the mids and treble out with sufficient realism.

It's like the early CD players that sounded metallic at high frequencies, it's what gave CD's a bad name for sound quality, especially compared to vinyl. Nowadays thats not really an issue anymore, and the same is true for a good class D amp.

Unfortunately my experience only extends to class D full range hi-fi amps, not those of the car audio world. So I would definitely recommend you try to listen to them before you buy. A lot of car audio shops have the more popular brands like Alpine and Eclipse on display, hooked up so you can listen. See what you think
