claimshell enclosures/walls

i've had a question about these types of claimshell enclosures for a while now.... couldn't the port of this type of enclosure be considered an external port? Calculate it however it works for you. The length doesn't change if the port is internal or external. It's only a matter of semantics, not physics that differentiates internal and external ports.
