CL-61a Tweeters get cut off

I'm currently running a set of CL-61a's with a HiFonics NX880 amp... running 110 watts each to the set... and i have an alpine 9813 head unit.. my problem is when i have a song up loud... usually a song with a lot of treble or something like rock.. my tweeters just get cutoff.. why is that? when i turn the volume all the way down on my head unit.. and then turn it back up, the tweeters come back. but when i play my music really loud they get cut off.. any help?

What type of amp are you running? Usually that happens when the output signal isn't very clean. Which your are more likely to see at higher volume. You can try turning your gains down, you can live with the speakers at a lower volume, or you can buy a new 4 channel amp. You could also try to run better wire to the speakers that would help cancel out more interference. Those are about all of the things I can think of right now.

hmmm well my wires arent very big.. they say 18 gauge but i really doubt it.. they're pretty thin.. i'll change the wires to see if it fixes the problem

Might be the protection thing inside of the crossover. Shuts it down when the tweets get out of hand.

Seen it bypassed before ... however, you'd still need to turn it down if you heard distortion.

Must be pushing those things to the max ... I've never had that problem with the same exact component set.

If your wires are 18 gauge and your running 100+ watts through them you might want to look at some new wire. I got some great quality 16 and 12 gauge Stinger wire of of Ebay from a seller named bag-boy. He had really fast shipping and the Stinger twisted pair wire is really nice. I ordered all my new wiring off of him because he combined shipping also instead of ripping me off like alot of sellers do.

Also the protection mode on crossovers usually happens when you have a "dirty" signal that could damage your tweeters.

Wire is wire.

Walmart has some larger wire waiting for you.

yeah wire is wire but then again soda is soda. People just PREFER different brands. Its not like I was holding a gun to his head and telling him to buy it. I was just letting him know what I PREFER. If you like Walmart wire then thats great however there was no need to quote me when you're the post below me. I'm sure he is perfectly capable of reading and this isn't a 50 page thread either. Plus what I said was not incorrect, I was once again simply stating my brand preference.

Holy PREFERENCE batman ... jump off the PREFERENCE bandwagon already. Sheesh.

People these days. Snapping and flipping out over nothing. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Oh, and while I'm on it ... don't tell me when and how to quote someone. I can quote how I want and when I want. Your opinion just means the world to me! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

*Sigh* The protection is not from a dirty signal, it is saving the tweeter from being blown from too much power. Although a dirty signal could cause it, he isn't running a real crappy amp or anything. Yeah, wire is wire by the way, got some real expensive RF twisted wire(For free), and noticed absolutely no difference.
