choosing cruddy subs

ok so ive moved into an apartment for my second year at college, and want a system for my room...im not looking to spend a lot of money like on my car...just something thats nice. ive been looking around and decided i want to run a car audio system in my room. ill be using a power supply and prob a 4ch amp for 2 spkrs and a sub. for subs ive been looking for something cheap and my two best choices as of now are the Rockford RFP4815 HE series 15 and Memphis PR124D. the RF is a 15 and Memphis a 12. either will prob get 150-200RMS. im looking for mainly spl to annoy my neighbors n such. haha which you think is the best sub for what im looking for? probably in a ported box tuned to 30 or below...

The Memphis PR's are hardly "cruddy" subs...actually quite respectable for the price.

Oh, and as a fellow apartment-dweller - making a system to annoy your neighbors will get you an eviction notice rather quickly.

oh dont worry about the neighbor thing, i was just joking, but it wouldnt matter anyway i live in a college town n my whole complex is college kids. anyway, the memphis site says tune to 38hz...that seems a little high to me, i like low bass, and want it to sound good..(ihave an ava15 in my car). anyway other suggestions or such are welcome. thanks

shiot, get some used infinity's man those things will give u nice bass for what u are looking for, for a house that is. i had them running in my car swapped them for some type rs and hooked them up in my house before i sold them

they werent too bad, gave u enough bass

i would not bother with a power suply and a car amp. get your sell a plate amp from parts express.

stylez, u been to hilo before? man i miss home...anyway, i been lookin at plate amps n stuff and theyre not that cheap, and i need some amp to run my mids/highs off of too. btw this isnt for HT, its for my computer n stuff. anyway there somem other good cheap subs that dont need much power out there i should consider?

howre you gonna run it in ur house? run the speakers + sub to amp and then hook the amp into a regular home entertainment system?

im just asking cus iwanna do the same thing with my L7 mayby.....

The plate amp is powered off the subwoofer out of your receiver, or the high level (speaker wire) outputs of your amp.

Why not just set up a real home stereo system? You could get some old Cerwin Vega speakers for pretty cheap and they have 15-inch woofers and a lot of bass. If that's not enough bass add a 15-inch home subwoofer with speaker level inputs and you will have groundshaking bass. Most 15-inch home subs have over 400W, some up to 2000W. Then just get a decent stereo reciever with at least 150 watts output.

so then they all DO just plug into a home reciever unit?

i dont have money for a reciever n all that. im planning on using just the stereo plug output (the kind u put your earphones into on a cd player, ipod etc...) and having an rca converter hooked up to it. the rca will connect to a 4ch amp thatll have 2 coax's connected to 2 of the channels, and a sub connected to the other 2. ill get control over gain and hp/lpf for the coax/sub and hopefully itll work out ok. the amp will be powered by a home power supply unit putting out around 35amps and peaking at 45amps approx 14-15v.
