this is definatly the inccorect message board for chevys, esp BBC's ...

Didnt you notice its loaded with ricerboy **** ?

But Since I have been racing BBCs all my life I can chime in....

What cam is in it now? If you add a roller cam you'll prolly have to worry about

piston to valve clearence which means your going to have to tear it down to check these clearences....plus IMO I would never roller cam a 396 because its tossin money in the drain...They will never make huge power no matter what cam is in that 396...If you want to make power go 454 and larger

nothing wrong with using a 396. Why not use it..he already has it. Look for a cam in the 540-560 lift area with overlap of about 112-114. Also get a ncie dual plan aluminum intake. It will have better low rpm around town. I would freshen the heads up with new springs and valves and look for a nice 750 carb with a electric choke. Stay away from a dominator style carb.

Man I had one, my friend still has it. Rev's like a small block and makes over 500 HP. Don't let anyone tell you those are not fun little motors //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

PTC T400 and a 10" 3500 RPM stall, 9" ford with Detroit Locker and 4:11's in a 1990 SWB chevy truck. Man I wish I would not have sold that truck, but it funded my wall build. . . //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
