Chevrolet wiring question

I have an 08 Chevy 2500 HD and want to replace the factory head with an in dash DVD/GPS unit. I am leaning toward Kenwood at the moment.

I am hearing that in the newer GM's everything from the ECU runs through the factory head. If that is the case what and where do I get the wiring required to install a non factory head and still keep everything working? Don't care about XM but I would want onstar, steering wheel controls and whatever else runs through the factory unit to keep working.

Thanks,

E

Hey bud. I havent done too many of the 2008's since they are some of the newest models. Usually with the 01 up GM's you need the special harness. We use the scosche one. They are 109.99 - 129.99.

This will provide the harnesses to tie in the radio and onstar and all that stuff, but you may find trouble retaining steering wheel controls. Some cars its pretty hard to retain steering wheel controls. They do make modules to retain them but I have always had trouble getting those to work correctly.

Get the metra gmos-lan-01 harness. It will also put your vss and parking brake wire in the harness so your not running wires...real time saver:D

*If you have bose get the gmos-lan-02...you will use your front and rear preouts tho.*
