Check out the box my RE XXX is in

ya its a 12. What kind of sound would that give me? Boomy bass, quick bass, sloppy bass? Also, i assume the size is 2.3 cu ft after sub displacement? Also, how can the port size have such a big range? I thought the port size directly correlates with the frequency it is tuned at ? And i assume to get a slot port box?
If you want more output than the sealed, and still good sound quality... go with...

2cubes NET tuned to 30hz, with 30-50 square inches of port area. This is the size of the opening of the port, NOT the port length (which correlates with the NET volume, tuning, and port area.

aren't you the guy who complained about how bad the rl-p sucked for weeks on end and just bought the xxx instead of following EVERYONE's suggestion to build a decent box?
Yeah, I just went back and read those threads, I missed them the first time around somehow, wow. That's all I'm going to say, WOW!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif  //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

yea that was me. But honestly the XXX was fine in that box for me, since my old car was really small. Sure it could have been much better, but it didn't seem worth it to me to spend the money when i enjoyed how it sounded. BUt now i know its not gonna be loud enough becuase its going inside and SUV, and now i can actually get the exact type of box i want, instead of having to spend alot on fiberglass.

And regardless of what people told me, i noticed a huge difference by just dropping the XXX into the box and taking the RL-P out, and changing nothing else. I also new i wouldn't have the car longer than a year or two, so that is why i didn't want to pour money into a custom enclosure just built for that car for the RL-P. Buying the XXX was a great idea, because it sounded pretty decent in my old car, but now i have the opportunity to make it sound insane.

sorry for my ignorance, but you are taking about a slot port, not an aero port, correct?

If you liked the way it sounded before sealed then why change at all. You'll gain more SPL by putting in a ported enclosure but you're also going to lose some SQ. Its up to you though, it is your sub and your vehicle. Don't let everyone on here talk you into porting it unless MORE OUTPUT is what you really want.
because it really wasn't loud enough for me most of the time, but the alternative since it was a very small car w/ no trunk would be to fiberglass the trunk, which i wasn't going to do, so i was stuck and just dealt with it. BUt now that i have the opportunity to get more output without paying a ton of money for a fiber glass box, ill take that opportunity.

i dont think anyone told you you wouldnt see a difference swapping the rl-p for an xxx. it should be louder, its got more magnet, more excursion, more power handling, and costs more.

i believe what was being said was that the rl-p in a good ported box would be louder than the xxx in that sealed box.

maybe, but at the time that wasn't a viable option for me. Plus I had the dual 2 ohm Rl-p, and the thing kept bottoming out from my amp . People on here kept saying they were fine with 1000+ watts, but mine didn't sound too fine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif So instead of having to sell the amp and get a completly custom fiberglass job in my car, i just sold the RL-P and got the XXX. Plus, if it was bottoming out from the power in a tiny sealed box, it would ahve been toast in a bigger box with the same amp. The sound quality on that thing was very impressive though, but it definately wasn't loud enough for me. The XXX is freaking perfect though, i love this sub, and have for the last year and a half ive had it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif This is the first sub i have owned that has sounded excellent no matter what kind of music i listened to on it, and ive had quite a few subs (JL Audio W3, Infinity Perfect, RL-P, XXX)

Also, the other issue with the RL-P was even with the 1200 watt eD amp, it wasn't any louder than my old Infinity sub which ran off of a 250 watt amp. But the XXX was, that thing wangs pretty nicely on some frequencies.
