Cheater Amps

I was pointing out that they go off woofer size in their comps.

the tantrum is 600@4ohm I dont know what they rate that but I wouldnt consiter it a "cheater" amp

it's 1200 watts @ 4 ohms at 14.4 but is rated 250 watts rms @ 4 ohm at 12.5 volts. i'll quit typing now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Okay Ill try to make sense of the cheater amp

you have one amp thats rated at 300watts @ 4ohms and will go down to 1ohm...

300@4

600@2

1200@1

now you have an amp thats rated @ 150 watts and is rated to go to 1ohm (but will go significatly lower still making more power....

150@4

300@2

600@1

1200@.5

2400@.25

the tantrum may be rated at 250@4, but the sanctioning bodies have done away with simply trusting the posted ratings since the orion concept series (they rated a 1000+watt amp @ 1 watt, just to show what a bunch of bs the ratings were)

if you have a 1800 watt @ 1ohm amp that doesnt have a 4ohm rating it'll go as so...

1800@1

900@2

450@4

one of older model PPI Art Series amps, i forget the model #, but it rated at like 12watts rms @4 ohms, then around 400ish watts at either .25 or .5 ohms. i dont remember correctly, but something like that...

arent the older rockford fosgate punch DSM/ix were cheaters too...

all of the new cadence amps have double digit 4 ohm ratings.

i used an opti 200.2, 380w@4ohm. i had it wired to 2ohm nominal and had a 3ohm final load on a burp, gave me a tad over 1kw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Me personally am not looking for a certain wattage considering I have 4.5k I know numerous people have asked me about cheater amps so I made this thread to see everyone chime in on the subject, but also does anyone know the rating on the american bass XD1800? I know its rated at 150x1@4ohms and said to do 1800x1@1ohm, but I dont know how tru that is.

I remember seeing a page a couple of months ago on an amp rated at 300wrm @ 4ohm, but because it was designed to live with a constant short circuit it could handle 1/16 ohm all day. Came out to like 860+ amps of current draw and 9600 watts RMS. I guess you could call that cheater.

old school cheater amps were sound stream 3.0 (12.5 watts x 2) 6.0 (25x2)

audio art 50 hc (25x2) 100 hc (50x2) promos series ppi (25, 50 and 450) and a whole bunch of rf amps and some old us amps (they didnt hold a candle to the audio art 100 hc though that 100 hc was rated at 100 watts and put out 1200 ish watts us amps at that time would do 800ish) . orion had some amps too but i never used them due to the soundstreams being as good and costing 100-200 less. ma audio has a couple out now as well as american bass but i never messed with the new school versions
