Cheapest place to get sound deadening material?

Thanks for the link to the sounddeadening showdown. THat was VERY informative. So...no peel and seal for me. If I do anything..at a minimum it will be fatmat.

Still looks like a hellofa lot of work. I also suppose since i've got a 4 door I'd need to do ALL 4 DOORS which is something I hadnt planned on. I'd definitely ONLY do the doors. Not pulling up carpet.

at home depot it cost me around 18 bucks for Jiffy Seal or something like that. My first layer is down already and going for the second during winter break. my bass last longer but looking forward to my second layer.

Quote: Peel & Seal is the same as Fatmat.

From the "Sound Deadener Showdown"

I thought that he said that Peel and Seal was basically the same as some of the ashphault based products..which he said to avoid.

I'll have to re-read.

peel and seal is no sound deadener, but Fat-mat is Peel and Seal, and Fat-mat is sound deadener.
dynamat is sound deadener, and it is also relabeled peel and seal.
In looking at his web site again....it does appear that this is what he;s saying:

Quote from the site:

Question: "I heard that eDead and FatMat were really Peel & Seal."

Answer: "I've heard that too. I have seen samples of Peel & Seal that are indistinguishable from the products you mentioned. "

So while he kind of beats around the bush...he's apparently saying that Peel and seel is the same as Fat-Mat.

So Mike, are you really saying that if I'm gonna use Fatmat...I might as well go by peel and seel?

I do not pretend to have seen all brands of sound deadener, but asphalt based products are not really that good compared to even a “lower end” dedicated sound deadener. If you have Peel & Seal in your car and think it “works great”, you will really be surprised what a better product can do.

Peel n' seal is NOT sound deadener.I don't know why people don't realize this.Search SD, there was a huge argument on this matter not too long ago.
Anything that mass loads a panel can be used as a sound deadener. Doesn't mean it will perform optimally or as good as other products on the market made specifically for such purposes.....

And as mentioned....a lot of "sound deadening" products are nothing more than rebadged peel 'n seal.

Yes excellent point!

You can put a flannel blanket in there and it will quiet it down, but that does not mean it is the best thing to use.
