Cheap speaker wire a myth?

I'm just curious because I'm using some 18-gauge for my DLS UR36i set I bought from CircuitCity called Nexxtech: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Nexxtech-18-Gauge-Speaker-Wire-50-N50FTSPKR18G/sem/rpsm/oid/153220/catOid/-12927/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do. Do you think I would hear a difference if I used Stinger instead? Perhaps a more cleaner signal? Or is speaker speaker wire? So far I've been having no problems with it.

Might be a little small depending on how long the run is and how much power you are running (might have some resistive loss) but other than that the difference isn't something that is going to affect anything in any audible way.

there wont be a difference in sound, but if u are running too much current through the wire it can burn up. Of course it also depends on the length of the run

18ga is pretty small... I'd rather use 16ga or so for front/rear stage and 12ga or less for sub stage. 18ga is usually the size of remote wire.

Thanks for the helpful input guys. I went ahead and decided to upgrade the 18g to 16g. Wires are roughly 17-20' long to the x-over, and less then 3' to the amp. I looked at the sticky and 18g seems to just make it current-wise. I've been meaning to up it to 16g anyway, don't want to take a chance. i personally run 12 all around and 10 for my subs... always works fine...done with the last few systems... normally have a nice amount of power running tho... i doubt switching from 18 to 16 would be worth the time or money in your case... i could see oing 14 or lower but just to 16 is kind of a waste...

upgrading to 16 is still so much better then 18. and He already said his current doesnt really exceed the amount an 18AWg can handle, he's just going to 16AWG for headroom.
